Eye of the Beholder

We love animals that are so cute, Like a Puppy, Cat or Bunny. But there are cool creatures we ignore Because they look quite funny. Let's take a look at some of them Cause they deserve attention. You'll find them very interesting And way beyond convention. First is the small Star Nosed Mole With a strange shape on her face. But she's fastest of hunters, No one can beat her pace! Her strange pink nose gives her an edge, Though her eyes can barely see. She can find food and eat it up Before you can count to three! She swims with water proof fur, Digging claws?  As oars they double! She can smell underwater too Through the use of bubbles! Next is a creature that you'll love, Though they look quite strange. But once you learn their special skill Your opinion will change! Aye Ayes look shocked, with big eyes, Hair looks electrified. But when in trees, looking for food, They know just what's inside! One finger, long and thin, Taps quickly on the trees. It makes bugs mov

Original

When Little Z was born, Something wasn't right. His Mama noticed right away He hadn't any stripes. Little Z's odd pattern Were not the normal lines. Instead it looked like flowers And winding, curving vines. It wasn't just his Mama That saw something was off. Some other Zebras stopped and laughed, While others just would scoff. When the herd would tease him, He'd turn the other cheek. His pattern made him special! His markings were unique! Little Z would not feel bad Or anxious 'bout his marks. But at times it would be hard To ignore all the remarks. The herd, they liked consistency- Change they'd not promote. They wanted all to look the same And not to rock the boat. But Little Z loved his fur- It was part of who he was. One Zebra in a million, With his uncommon fuzz. One day, some other Colts Came around to tease. "What's wrong with your fur? Do have some gross disease?" They laughed and mocked so meanly, Each one an awful bully. But Little

You Get What You Give

The Peacock was a kind, dear sort, Always helping out The other Birds in the woods, Never without a doubt. He was beautiful, but not too proud, His feathers shone in light. He didn't strut and didn't brag And always did what's right. Once the Dove had hurt her wing, So Peacock gave a boost To help Dove back into her nest So she could rest and roost. And when the Raven could not see Because of brief eye strain, Peacock helped him with his food By sharing all his grain. These kind actions are not the norm For all Peacocks, you see. Most were focused on themselves, Other Birds would agree. One day when our Peacock awoke, His tail could not be found. Feathers fell out while he slept With a few still on the ground. The Ants were taking them away! They must have liked the quills. Thinking they were beautiful, They'd decorate their hills. By the time Peacock had realized What was going on, It was too late to save his plumes- Most of them were gone. The other Peacocks came an

Come Together

The little Fox looked rather bored, So Mom said, "Go and play!" She didn't like him sitting there And moping the whole day. "If you use imagination You'll find something to do. Go create your own fun game, Or build something brand new!" Mom encouraged little Kit, "Now you go outside." So little Pup left their house With a heavy sigh. He looked around maybe to find A fun activity. He promised Mom he would use His creativity. He found some twigs and some leaves- "I'll make a cool canoe! I'll be the Captain of this boat And its made up crew!" He worked hard to build the craft, And since he was the boss, He made himself a Captain's hat Out of bark and moss. He launched his ship into water, Was pleased that it did float. He sailed toward land across the lake In his little boat. But right before he did land Sharp rocks on the shore's bank Made a hole in his canoe And it quickly sank. He climbed onto the sandy beach With no trees

Brrr...

"Ok, ok, are we all here? Welcome to our meeting. I guess we can get started Now we finished with that greeting." Elephant Seal cleared his throat, Addressing the Town Hall. Their community was very close, Although it was quite small. Many of the inhabitants Learned together they must stick In order to build happy lives In the cold and vast Arctic. They opened up by counting heads And seeing who was there. Harp Seal, Walrus, Arctic Fox, Reindeer and Polar Bear. Elephant Seal began to speak, But quickly was disrupted. The Hare had raised her little paw, And gently interrupted. "Excuse me, Sir, I am sorry For cutting in this way. But I note Puffin's not here- Did you see him today?" Elephant Seal looked around, And whisperings were heard. Each was asking their neighbor, "Have you seen the Bird?" "We should go check up on him, He had planned to attend. We must know why he is not here And look after our friend." Out of the Hall they filed out,

Overconfidence

The Dog was sure it was there. He knew where he had dug. He never even told a soul- Not Bull Dog, Mutt or Pug. He searched and searched, but no success. Somebody must have seen him Digging deep into the earth, Under this Oak tree's limb. He chose this tree because it was Tall and oh so grand, With lots of leaves and strong branches On soft and grassy land. But his favorite bone was gone- Stolen in the night! He vowed to find who took it And make this wrong a right! Dog thought, "I bet Squirrel watched From high up in the tree! He hung around til I was done, Waiting patiently!" The Squirrel must have then snuck down, Dog went on to imagine, "Digging up that awesome bone- With an evil grin!" Dog went to accuse Squirrel, Though he had no proof. "That's what happened, I am sure!" The Dog huffed with a "woof!" He would confront this awful thief. On Squirrel's guilt, Dog had ruled. "I'll get my bone back from that crook, Show him
