Stuck

What do I do?  I'm not sure.
I must sit here like stone.
What if someone comes to the door?
Or calls me on the phone?

I'm hungry but I cannot eat.
I cannot reach the snacks.
I feel like I'm glued to this seat,
But oh!  My aching back!

At once, without warning,
I found I couldn't move.
Stuck like this all morning,
My position won't improve.

I wish I had a book to read,
Something to pass the day.
What about my own needs?
Don't I get a say?

Now it is well past noon.
I must get my work completed.
I have a meeting very soon,
But I'm stuck where I am seated.

My leg's asleep down to the bone.
I'd love a little nap.
But your time is not your own
When your Cat sleeps on your lap.

Walking along the steep sea cliff To see the lovely views, The Otter strolled a bit too close- His footing he did lose! He smelled the salty ocean air And flowers on the breeze. He listened to the sweet Bird songs And wind between the leaves. Watching Dolphins jump and play In ocean's foamy swells, He didn't see the dark tree root And over the side he fell. As he dropped down toward the waves, Per Gravity's laws, He saw a branch that stuck way out And grabbed it with his paws. He felt thankful for the chance That this branch did give. But also noted sadly That this was no way to live. As he hung over the cliffs He noted with a frown The new problem that he now faced Was how would he get down? "I've no clue how to live Drifting in winds and gales- What will I eat?  For way up here There are no Clams or Snails!" He swung there dangling in the wind, Regretting his clumsiness. He wished he had been more aware And avoided this whole mess. As time passed, as he ju

Out Cold

As Winter was approaching Lizard felt chill in the air. Being so cold-blooded She needed to prepare. She wasn't like the mammals- Their body heat came from inside. Instead she was affected By the temperature outside. In Summer she stayed warm With the strong heat of the sun. But she would feel so cold Once the Autumn had begun. Every year she searched For a place to warm her bones. So into a hole she'd go Or find some sun-warmed stones. But Winter was so pretty- There was so much fun to do! She'd maybe learn to ski Or try out new snowshoes. The white blanket that covered All the land and all the trees Was beautiful and peaceful, Despite the low degrees. So this year would be different. She would try a brand new plan. She'd need to find a way To stay warm in the cold land. It was still mid-Autumn, She had time to plot her course And begin her search For a portable heat source. The first idea that came Was to carry a bright torch. She found an old matchstick, But her fing

Rare Bird

The Chickens always chatted All day in the coop. They had the latest info. They knew the hottest scoops. The Geese would sometimes join To hear the latest tales, Along with all the Roosters, Ducks, Turkeys and Quails. The Chickens were, no doubt, The farm's most popular. They ruled all of the acres, Living the life of stars. The Pig and Sheep were jealous. The Goat, he felt it too. They wanted all the fame That the Chickens knew. So Pig said they should try To become the new elite. The Goat and Sheep agreed With a "Maa" and a big bleat. He'd go undercover After learning how they spoke. He'd learn their native tongue And all their inside jokes. Pig would learn their secrets, Know all that they had said. And in no time at all They'd rule the whole farmstead! He'd work with his best friends To sneak into the coop. Then he'd quietly Infiltrate the group! Night and day they listened, And practiced how to speak By watching all their gestures And looking at t
