Elephants Don't Eat Bananas

Elephants don't eat bananas...

Rhinos don't climb up the trees.

Birds don't swim in the water,

And sea lions don't float on the breeze!

Everything seems so messed up-
The animals are acting so strange!
What is happening at the zoo
To make all the animals change?
Horses are barking like dogs!

While kangaroos crawl on the ground.

Giraffes are herding the sheep?

With snakes bouncing all up and down!

The tortoise is as fast as a cheetah,

While the rabbit moves so slow it's silly.

And while frogs build some dams on the river,

Beavers lounge on some pads with the lillies.

The moose are changing their colors,

While the chameleons have antlers galore!

The anteaters are standing on one leg-

While flamingos eat ants off the floor?

Oh what's going on at the zoo
To mix up the creatures this way?
Could it be they've all gone CRAZY?
NOPE! Surprise!
It's just April Fools Day!

Prickly

The Hedgehog felt a little down. Lonely, he felt quite sad. Such a friendly and outgoing guy, But hugs he never had.
By nature, he was warm-hearted, And loved to talk and chat. But his quills were sharp, so friends stayed far. He couldn't blame them for that.
On a walk he saw the Rabbit, Teary and wet-eyed. Rabbit explained he stubbed his toe. "It hurts so much!" he cried.
Hedgehog gave his sympathies, And thought a hug would help. But as his spikes stuck Rabbit, He shouted, "Ouch!" and yelped.
Rabbit frowned and limped away. Hedgehog then did lament,  "My aim was to give comfort- Pain was never my intent."
He could not play with his mates, Not Touch Football nor Tag, Red Rover, Leapfrog, or Hand Clap. And not Capture the Flag.
They didn't want to leave him out. They did like him so much. But what else could they do When his body hurt to touch?

So Hedgehog would walk by himself, Although he was well liked. He'd breathe fresh air, pick flowers…

Identity Crisis

Platypus was in crisis What herself she should be called. Due to many guises, In many classes she did fall.
The Platypus scratched her head,  She always thought she knew. But she didn't have an answer When asked, "What are you?"
"A Platypus, of course," she laughed. But Muskrat then had said, "But what exactly does that mean?" And she cocked her head.
"What does it mean?  What am I?" And now it plagued her so. If she couldn't tell what she was Maybe someone else would know?
She found the Duck and waddled up- "Know what a Platypus may be? I'm at a loss and thought you might Have more a clue than me."
Duck looked at her and smiled wide- "A kind of duck, I'm sure! You lay eggs and have a bill! You needn't wonder more!"
Platypus was glad at first. But it did not take too long Until she started to think and feel Duck was very wrong.
"I have a bill and lay eggs, This is very true, But don't have feathe…

Like Ducks to Water

Today was the day, fresh out of the nest. The babies would put their skills to the test. Mama led first, assuming they'd follow Her to the lake, near them in the hollow.
She leapt out of the nest, and turned to her brood, "We learn swimming today!" as they finished  their food. They looked at Mom, questions in their eyes, Though this should not have come as a surprise.
"Do we have to swim?" "The nest feels so snug!" "Up close to each other it's easy to hug!" "Why go to lake, so cold and so wet? "To be damp and chilly until the sun sets?"
Mama Duck rolled her eyes, and then she had said, "Swimming's what we do, it's why Duck  feet are webbed! Our feathers protect us from chilly waters. So come now, all of my sons and my daughters."
Reluctant, the Chicks filed out of the nest  With less excitement than Mom would  have guessed. They left, walking with her, with sad reactions, But then, became scattered, ove…
